Hello, i can really use everyone help and expertise. i just finished building my computer to find that only two SATA 6Gb/s connectors and only one SATA express connector work on the mobo:??: :pfff:. is this normal? do i have to download an update from asus website for the mobo to enable all ports?. i tried all ports and only three total that have worked and recognized my drives. thank you in advance

They are not disabled in bios are they? The bios on my asus x97 will let you enable/disable sata ports individually . turn on pc when asus logo shows press delete to enter bios. Enter advanced mode and find the sata section and check save and reboot to windows and those ports should run what's plugged to them now

I am high jacking this thread because I have the same exact issue on the same board.
I have looked and all ports are on. I wanted to make sure hotswap was enabled for testing. Thoghht I had a bunch of busted cables, turned out it was the ports.

Still, 50%, that includes the 2 express ports, that don´t work and I have had various issues with mechanical harddrives over the years. My blu-ray player died as well a while back.
Starting to wonder if the board is bad, killing drives?
Now I just started to get hard freezes when I play gears 4 for an extended period.
2 of them today, never happened before. Rather old platform now but still kicking.
Any chance in hell that a new bios could help here?

Often those SATA ports are sharing PCIe lanes with other things on the mobo. So if you install something in lets say one of your other PCIe slots, then the SATA connectors that shares PCIe lanes will be disabled. Please see the motherboard manual as it would tell you which slots/connectors are sharing PCIe lanes.
