I'm looking to build a new pc for gaming, my current one is only around a year old, not even a year old yet but i built it on a pretty low budget, around $300 for the cpu, gpu, mobo, case and ram at first and put a bit more in getting more ram, a better power supply, a better case and a few other things, all in all i've got around $500 worth of parts in it maybe a bit more counting my $60 gaming mouse and other little things lol, but I have a new job now and a bit of extra money to spend and am looking to build a new more powerful pc.

Here's my curent build -- https://pcpartpicker.com/user/DarkDragoon/saved/7nJTwP

And heres the start for my new build -- https://pcpartpicker.com/user/DarkDragoon/saved/2KtfrH

So far i've got the mobo, gpu and ram picked out, i'd like some advice on what cpu to get that would be on par with the gpu, as well as some advice on the case to get with it and what cpu cooler to get, and just any other advice in general.

My current build can run Fallout 4 at medium settings with virtually no lag, i'm hoping for this build to be able to run it on high or ultra and be able to handle mods when they come out and just other new games in general on higher settings, my current build for what i paid for it is decent although i realize the parts i used in it have gotten significantly cheaper already but it's still not quite as powerful of a computer as i'd like to have, so any advice on parts that won't kill my wallet is greatly appreciated.

If you mainly be gaming in your new computer, you don't need anything higher than an i5 and 8gb ram.
Choose the right PSU,that's very important,look for one from Tier 1/2,for an r9 390 a 550w is enough,but i'd get a 650w psu anyway,for more headroom.
Let me know if there is anything else i could do.

Is their any specific cpu you'd recommend? I was mainly looking at i7s but would be fine getting an i5 if its good enough for what i need, also any suggestions on a cpu cooler or case?

Are you planning to overclock your new CPU? I5 6600k + Asus Z170 Pro
If not. I5 4460 + Asrock H97 Pro 4.
My pick for the cooler would definately be the hyper 212 evo.
For case, choose one Mid Tower ATX which looks good to you,Corsair,NZXT.Define R5,corsair 500r,750D,Enthoo Pro,NZXT S340,these are some of the good looking cases i could think of right now.

Remember that the K series CPU is for overclocking.

If you are not going to overclock as you've said, it would be a waste. (If i'm wrong, please correct me as I am always looking to be educated)

Ahh it didnt know that, well the normal 4690 is almost the same price, like 10 dollars less so not really a huge difference, but yea that should be a good build right, with that I shouldnt really have any problems playing fallout 4 in high or ultra and with some mods when they come out as well as other newer games at higher graphic settings right?

I5 4460 is a powerful chip, look for no other than it for a non-oc gaming machine.
As long as there is something like a R9 390,not just the fallout 4,but other heavy games coming in near future will run easily at 60 plus frames at max settings on 1080p.

The benchmark for the i5 4460 is 6637 but for the i5 4690 it's 7628 according to cpubenchmark.net from everything i'm seeing the 4690 and 4460 are pretty similar but the 4690 its a bit faster with a bit higher clock speeds and its only like $40 more so shouldn't i just get that instead?

There is not a huge difference in overall performance, for 40$ more, you'll get a few performance boost,so i won't suggest that. But if you are willing to spend more, the 4690 sure is a bit better overall.
But then again,in gaming just a few FPS boost here and there.
Games are more depended upon GPU though,so i won't suggest spending more on a CPU that can't be overclocked.
I5 4460 is just fine.

An x99 mobo is a different socket than the new skylake and z97 boards. x99 is for the "extreme" series processors and I think xeons. You would need either a z170 for skylake processor (i7 6700(k), i5 6600(k)) a processor without a K is not overclock able, but you might want one if you aren't going to upgrade your CPU any time soon, also Direct x12 I think, and correct me if I am wrong, will try to use some more CPU when running games. I don't know all the processors supported for z97, just match socket types. If you go x99 you might spend more because the processors are higher priced. The graphics card company I haven't heard much about, but I did just order a sapphire r9 390 and will match if not beat out a gtx 970 which can run games on high to ultra settings. For ddr4 ram you will need to go with a skylake build which might cost slightly more because of it being more new. Though it will give upgradability head room. A case is seriously your personal preference. I suggest watching some Youtube reviews of cases you think look good and then ask about them on here.
