i just spent 8 hours building my new pc making sure to take my time
my components are
i7 4790
z97 gaming 5 motherboard
16gb of ram
h100i gtx cooler
h440 case
750w 80 gold evga power supply
so when i first tried turning it on no fan spinned and no lights on the motherboard i looked to see
if any wires were not plugged in all the way like the 24pin motherboard connector and the cpu fan
after trying about 4 times to power my system on once i took out the connectors and put them back in i noticed a click noise when i tried booting just one click thats it and it was coming from my power supply im pretty pissed since this cost me near £1000 i dont know if i should take it to the pc shop down the road for them to look at it but i would really appreciate any help given to me with this
im desperate :(

Solution

1) disconnect the psu from everything
2) take a paperclip, bend it into a U shape.
3) insert one end of the paperclip into the "switch" connection on the large 24 pin plug, i believe your cables are all black, which while stylish makes this hard to find. so i'll explain where it's located; use the clasp on one side of the 24 pin plug as the "top side" on the top side row, 4th pin from the left, that is the "green" power switch. then insert the paperclip into EITHER of the connections directly to the right or left of the power switch connection (3rd or 5th from the left on the top row); both of those are "ground" or "black".
-at this point a functional psu will start, the fan should spin, if the psu just clicks at you without the fan spinning it's dead.

supposedly EVGA gives a 10y warranty on their gold 750W psus. But it shouldn't come to that. the merchant you bought it from should accept a swap with another unit.

if your psu seems to work then follow the instructions in the link posted in the reply above. they're good for hunting down what else might be wrong.
