Good Skylake match ON A BUDGET for GTX 560

Hi guys,
I'm on a tight budget and my venerable Core 2 Duo in a micro ATX board is starting to feel stretched. I've noticed that certain games I want to buy are now specced beyond what my CPU can offer. I therefore want to give myself some future expansion and upgrade possibilities, while using as much of my existing hardware as possible. My current setup is:

Gigabyte G31M-ES2L micro ATX board
4GB RAM
Core 2 Duo E8500
Galaxy GeForce GTX 560 GC with 2GB RAM
1TB WD Blue HDD
XFX 650W PSU

My plan is to buy a socket 1151 ATX board (I favour the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P), two 4GB DDR4 DIMMs and then pick a CPU, keeping everything else and slapping on a fresh copy of Windows.

This is my quandary:

Do go super-cheap and buy a Pentium G4400 or similar, step up a bit to an i3-6100 or go for an i5?

Before anybody says "go super-l33t and get an i7" - I can't justify the expense and don't think I would need the performance. Bear in mind that I probably won't be able to upgrade my GPU (which as far as I can tell peforms about the same as a GeForce 750) for at least another 12 to 15 months. So..... how much do I spend on a CPU to not bottleneck my GPU but give me the headroom to buy a faster one later? Thanks.

Well you have laid out all the options, comes down to what you are willing to pay.

If you are keeping the GTX560 then some of the latest games will be out of scope, but if you intend to eventually upgrade your GPU then, of course, the i5 is the better choice for longevity.

Instead of going for an expensive rig with DDR4 rams, skylake tech etc on a old graphics card.
I´d suggest going for cheaper alternative like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($172.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($42.98 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($44.89 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card ($167.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $428.75
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Then you´re good for almost all games today. That way your investment translate into a great upgrade you can keep for the next years go come.

OK thanks everyone. I don't want to go down the 1150 route because I want some longevity, and mATX will give me problems like my current system does, though the price is attractive. Since I am in the UK a G4400 is about £65 ($100 USD), an i3 6100 about $85 ($130 USD) and an i5 6500 is £160 ($245 USD!). I did look at ordering from newegg.com as I used to live in Canada and have used them before, but the shipping and taxes makes it pointless. I think I am going to have to go for an i5 and then save up for a better GPU. Thanks for the advice all, and the encouragement!
