I built a Z170-Skylake-Windows 10 system for a family member. They did not like Windows 10 so I erased 10 and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. Everything works perfect except WEI will not complete. I know who cares about WEI especially if everything works. Anyway, Bios flashed to latest, Memtest86 Pass, A different copy of windows 7 installed on different HDD, moved memory sticks to different arrangements, reseated CPU all to no avail.
Asrock Z170 Extreem4
i5-6500
16GB G.Skill DDR4 2400
Mushkin SSD 256GB, also tried set-up with WD Black HDD

This is the ERROR
Error: Failed to load XML
An invalid character was found in text content.
winsat\main.cpp(1041)
Unable To process XML file.
winsat\main.cpp(4742)

There are no .xml files in data folder ( hidden folders shown)

Any help?

heres the thing xml is a text doc. and if you look at the links I gave in your asrock exe4 thread you see the folder this maybe stored needs to be cleared or its corrupted ..

and this looks interesting on that as well ?

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1588238/an-invalid-character-was-found-in-text-content-error-while-reading-xml-in-vb-net

what you now need to do is research your xml error and get a understanding of it and what it does

look this over

there are not any .xml files in the data store folder. hidden folders shown. already been there after elevated command prompt. winsat formal and %SYSTEMROOT%\Performance\WinSat\DataStore\*.xml

C:\Windows\Performance\WinSat\DataStore

There is more than likely a bad character in reg. I have reflashed bios
I have been where you are looking before I posted here.

Still thinking motherboard maybe cpu. I might just replace both and see what happens.

Thanks for trying to help JM

I googled it around hard don't see any complaints out side the random ones like I posted the skylake and haswell differences are so slight and for the most part ddr4 and 1151 ???

and if 7 was not supported then they would not list it as a supported os and give support of said os at the boards manufactures support site ??

looking over sites like this to see ?

http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/383103-win7-running-lga1151-skylake-motherboards.html

just usb3 ? loks like another way they force you to public windows 10 and get you off a private/personal os like 7

all about getting in that backdoor for your data and force updating - that's called windows 10 ??

''there are not any .xml files in the data store folder'' maybe cause it cant write them to start with ?? '' Failed to load XML''

looked over a lot of forums and all and no one seems to be complaining about this wei just for skylake or z170 ??

I think you got a corrupt program or something affecting that xml
