Bought a pretty beast rig last summer but these past couple of weeks the pc just tends to shutdown and re-start when im in a pretty intensive game.
I re-set my bios, checked temperatures and tried literally everything I could about this issue.

I'm starting to think that it's either Windows 10 or my PSU which is a bit unlikely considering it's not even 6 months old.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 Motherboard Socket 1150 DDR3
CPU: i5 4690K
GPU: Geforce GTX 980
RAM: 16GB
PSU: NOX Hummer M 850W - Modular PSU
OS: Windows 10

Had the same issue on an older Gigabyte 1155 socket rig after upgrading to Win 10. The problem turned out to be the Gigabyte Easy Tune software. Mine was ET6 for which they don't have a WIN 10 version. Check for a new version and if not available, delete Easy Tune - it is a bear to get rid of too, google the command line and then also delete the folder....

If you have plans of sli ing down the road i would look for a 750 watt range of a tier 1 or tier 2 psu. Anything from seasonic is usually good as they make nothing under tier 2 they make supplys for xfx and others of course there is also their own seasonic brand.

A quality 550 watt would work if your not going to sli down the road. if you are you might as well get a 750 watt now for your system.
I know 600 watt is recomended for 980 but a tier 1 55watt would have no issue running it. Sorry for concurrent multi post but Im having a kid running around issue at the moment.

You would think software wouldn't cause a shutdown but it absolutely will. Check your event logs and look for critical kernel power -
