I would like to upgrade my MB and CPU since I need to replace them because of a power surge. I am on disability so I have a limited budget to work with. Please help if you can.

As a bit of advice, what we call pre built systems such as the Hp Pavillion A6030n system you have.
Are not generally very user friendly to up grade. one of the reasons is because the likes of Hp make a case that houses all of the internal hardware of the computer.

It can often lead to problems when you for example buy another motherboard and a Cpu plus the cooling for the cpu when trying to fit the new hardware inside the old a6030n case provided.

It`s not always the case but you should be aware of it.

The other aspect is the power supply they fit in there system, the Psu is normally a low rated or wattage output if still a factory fitted power supply unit by Hp. based around the pre build hardware internal to the case.

And it may need to be replaced or upgraded to a more powerful solution in wattage, in order for the new motherboard, cpu and the new memory you will have to buy.

The other things to consider is if the hard drives in the old system, along with any CD or Dvd based drives will be compatible with the interfaces of the new motherboard, if they not it means you will also have to buy new hard drives and cd/dvd drives to run with the new motherboard.

To be honest I would need to look at the case and how the motherboard is laid out inside it, and what connection interfaces the current hard drives and cd/ dvd drives use.

When you say a limited budget what sort of price for a cpu, motherboard, and the system memory were you thinking about.
I will then see what or if they would fit in your current case. and if the old drives of the system could be connected and re used.

You can PM me and I can post you back on a few options, depending on your amount you wish to spend.

My limit is as low as I can find =) I will probably replace the MB and CPU with the same that is in there now. I've priced the 2 items and I can get them for $100 or less. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer. It's been down now for many months and this is the first time that I have been able to come up with any extra cash to spend. My son had mentioned to me that maybe I should try and get upgrades since I had to fix it eventually but if I can put in the same items, hopefully I won't have any compatability problems. If I run into any problems, I hope someone will be around that will work with a disabled grandmother =)
