Will Asus m5a99x evo r2.0 work on m5a99x evo (original) rig?

Hi all,

A little while back, my motherboard (asus m5a99x evo) died for no apparent reason and after bringing it to a local shop, they said I needed a new one. However, they only had the m5a99x evo r2.0 version.

My question is: will the asus m5a99x evo r2.0 version work with the rest of my hardware which is already set up in the rig? It's the only one I can seem to find online. A friend had told me that when mobos die you need to replace everything, but as a uni student I definitely don't have the cash to build a new rig from scratch.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  1. There is almost no reason it wouldn't although can we get full specs? Although, I see that the r2.0 has a heat sink below the CPU that the normal one did not, this could get in the way of certain items like a CPU cooler/or if you have a card in the top PCIe x16 slot. If you have stock cooler and one GPU you should be fine though(put it in bottom slot if it doesn't fit in top) although I don't think they would make top PCIe x16 not work with modern GPUs. Still post full specs though.
  2. Yes should be no problem, it is just a slightly improved board with the same basic functions and chip set.

Glad to hear that everything should work! Sorry for the delay on the specs, PC was at my parent's house. Also, just got what was written on the box as parent's are computer illiterate haha.

    CPU fan: HYPER 212 EVO

Graphics card: 2GB GTX 660ti superclocked

CPU: AMD FX-4100 Processor Black Edition

    Power Supply: CORSAIR TX650

    RAM: Patriot memory PC3-12800 / DDR3 / 1600 MHz

Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more info!

  4. Should be no issues! I personally would use the opertunity to upgrade the CPU at the same time to FX6300 or FX8320
  5. Awesome, thanks for all the help!
