Problem I am having is I recently added memory and a new cpu to a computer. The computer started fined, then a day later it will not always start. I push the power button and the fans turn on but the HD light goes out after a second or two. I Power it off and wait 10 seconds then try again, sometimes it starts right up normally, some times I have to do it three more times, so far it will start up and after it does start up it runs fine. I have a good enough power supply, so I'm not sure what could be the problem, I have though of reinstalling the old cpu, but I don't see how that could be the problem. Its one thing for it to just not work, this sometimes yes, sometimes try again is hard to trouble shoot. The parts I installed were running fine on another system before I moved them.

Well new power supply put in, a nice corsair 750 modular PSU. Still taking multiple tries to boot. Once it boots its fine, and on the bright side I have a backup power supply. Anyone else have an idea on why the computer takes several tries to boot. It powers up every time but the blue HD light and actually starting up all the way is iffy. I don't think its the HD, I have windows 7 installed on one of the other drives and it would just boot up on the other drive if the first failed. motherboard maybe? bad memory module?

First of all check what the power consumption of the cpu you just fitted to the motherboard.
And check what the maximum wattage the cpu socket of the motherboard can take by using the brand name of the motherboard and it`s model number.

Fitting a cpu to a motherboard where it cannot provide or handle the wattage needed to power the cpu will result in the symptoms you are seeing, if you know you have a decent power supply of a good wattage out put.

If the board can support the cpu fitted and it`s wattage requirements from the cpu socket of the motherboard.

You will need to check if the problem is related to your bios firmware of your motherboard.
In order to detect, and work right with the cpu fitted you may have to update your motherboards bios firmware so the board knows how to work with the cpu and provide it with the right voltage settings.

Check your version of the bios you currently have, then check the brand makers website and support page for bios firmware updates, next to the updates it will list the changes or additions made to the new bios firmware file for example to support more models of cpu`s when fitted to the cpu socket of your motherboard.

If you go on logic power consumption has changed since you changed the cpu, without much doubt.
