I have a Verizon FIOS tech coming out on Friday 11/18 but was hoping in the meantime some people couple provide some help.

I have noticed a few things lately:

Specific around internet speeds... I hooked up my laptop via ethernet do the actiontec router and did a speed test.

I am paying for the Fios Internet Speeds Up to 75 Mbps/75 Mbps

When I do my speed test using the Verizon one as well as others.. I am on average only getting 20-30 mbs download, but I am getting 70+ mbs upload which looks weird.

Once I switch over to wifi.. some of the iphones in the house are lucky to get 2-3mbs... using powerline adapters I am getting around 10-20mbs.

Additionally I have had issues lately with some channels not coming in etc...

In the end it may very well be just something wrong with the wiring to the house, but wondering if anyone had any other ideas what it might be?

I know with wifi I won't get the 75 or anything like that, but I shouldn't be getting 2-3 mbs either.

Thanks

There is not a lot you will be able to test yourself. A common source of issues is the coax cable between the ONT and the router. You need to check that all the connection are tight and no water or other stuff has gotten into the connections. You could replace the cable if that is possible.

The connection coming into the house to the ONT is actually a fiber and those seldom have any issues....mostly a backhoe cuts them which would leave you completely down. The optic lasers do get old and start to not put out full power after many years but this is nothing you can even think to test.

Now if you continue to have wireless issue after they get the wired connection fixed you may want to discuss with verizon turning on the ethernet...

Now if you continue to have wireless issue after they get the wired connection fixed you may want to discuss with verizon turning on the ethernet port on the ONT. This would allow you to use a different router that might have better wireless coverage. If you only have internet it is a pretty simple thing to do, if you have tv from them and especially if you have their DVR boxes it is a little more complex. They do this all the time though and there are pretty good instruction on their site as well as others.
