Hi!

I've recently purchased a new RAM (Kingston HyperX FURY Memory DDR3 8 GB 1600mhz Black (HX316C10FB/8) ) to improve my PC a bit, my current rig is:

Mobo: ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
CPU: FX 4300
GPU: Radeon R7 250 1GB DDR5
OLD RAM: ADATA 4GB DDR3 1333Mhz

NEW RAM I wish to install: Kingston HyperX FURY Memory DDR3 8 GB 1600mhz Black (HX316C10FB/8)

It's not the first time I changed RAM memory on a Mobo, and since these HyperX's come with a
"Self Overclocking" feature (according to what I read) I believed I wouldn't have to go into BIOS to adjust anything, but, once I replaced the old RAM with the new one (I preffered having 8GB at 1600mhz than 12GB at 1333 mhz, so I just extracted the old one and placed the new one) my PC wouldn't boot, and the motherboard wouldn't emit a sound (the fans turn on but that's about it, nothing else loads, not even the BIOS); so I placed the old 4GB back by itself and, voila, my PC booted normally. I have tried every iteration of placement for the HyperX; on each one of the 4 DDR3 slots, by itself and then in combination with the old 4GB 1333mhz but I haven't been able to get it working if the HyperX is inserted. The PC only boots when only the ADATA 4GB is inserted by itself.

Note: My BIOS is up to date; version 2101; downloaded it from Asus and flash updated it, but that didn't work either.

Can Anyone please help me?

Thanks!!!

Hi Tadesman1!! Thanks for the fast reply.

Does that mean that I have to go into BIOS and adjust frequencies/timings? I've already checked and everything is set to auto/default and to be honest I've never really changed those kind of setting before, so in case I have to alter them, which settings should i change? and to what?

Please excuse such a begginer's question but I'm kinda lost here.

Thanks!

Try putting the old stick in, then find the the DRAM settings, they are prob on auto, change them and set the 9-9-9 etc timings manually to the same thing, set the DRAM voltage to 1.55 - save - exit - shutdown and try adding the Fury, cross fingers and try and start (you may also have problems since these are made with newer high density memory ICs which may not be supported either

Thanks! I will do that right now and let you know how it goes. Let's hope it works.

Again, thank you so much!

Sorry to bother, but i found an option in the system frequency/voltage DRAM settings called "memory clock speed" if I set that to 1600Mhz (or 800Mhz?) could it help?

Hi! I managed to get the PC to boot up with both of them stuck in, by setting the "Memory Clock Speed" to 1600Mhz and following your other instructions (Timings and Voltage) but although my systems detects the extra 8GB of RAM it is only using the 4GB of the older one (I know this because I checked both the System Properties and the Resource Manager as seen in these snapshots: ) and ) : is there any way to make use of that memory? Trading back the RAM isn't really an option and at this point I'm kinda desperate. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Could maybe try selling it, this happens alot, DDR3 these days is all may with high density memory ICs (except for small runs of the older models, like the original GSkill Ripjaws or their NT line of value DRAM. And it doesn't help that all over the different forums there are a lot of idiots saying 'DDR3 is DDR3 it'll work', statements like that in large part urged me to write a FAQs and Fiction article on DDR3 (can be found here:
