Think Ive finally got a great part list together. Will be using the rig for gaming, video editing, photo editing, streaming and more. Trying to future proof the PC if I ever want to drop in a new GPU in 2-3 years to run, record and edit 4k60fps. What do you guys think of the motherboard? Took me awhile to pick the Asus X99-A 3.1

The AS5, shouldn't be part of the PC budget. The cooler will come with the needed compound. I agree that changing to an Evo, and 16gb ram, makes good sense. It would give you more towards a better GPU. With some changes, you could manage a 980ti, for only a couple dollars more, than your original build.

I'm not getting a better GPU. I'm going to wait 2 or 3 years then I might get a GPU so I can run 4k60fps. I'm still on the fence about the ssd and ram. Hopefully an amazing deal pops up that will make my decision easier.

You should never buy to upgrade. If you take that route, you will never be satisfied with what you have, and you will wind up spending nearly two or three times what you would if you build the whole thing at once and be done with it. Believe me I've been there and done that, and I will never do that again. Buy once and be done, or buy and upgrade and upgrade and upgrade and you'll never be satisfied.

This is what I would do for a 2K X99 build:

Im only going to upgrade the GPU and buy a 4k monitor. Dont want to deal with additional parts if they are all working fine.

I generally really respect g-units posts but I respectfully strongly disagree on the GPU. A 980ti is way overkill for 1080 gaming and isn't very good at 4K gaming. Freesync and gsync are only going to get cheaper and better in a year or two and both standards are not likely to stand. Upgrading a GPU in a year or two makes perfect sense. CPU not so much.

I recently put a $350 390x in my 5820 build and a $395 980 in my Q6600(to be replaced soon) and I am totally satisfied. Bought a Ben Q 144hz monitor for $280 and am set. When the technology matures in a year or two and prices come down to earth I will consider 2k/4K. The new generation GPUs will be released next year and we will see how they handle 4K. Right now it is just to bleeding edge.

I should be able to sell those cards for at least $100 each in a year and put that towards the new tech that might actually get the job done.

Ok so now Im going with a full tower since Im getting a long open desk for christmas. Will be putting in a bunch of fans to keep everything cool, a fan controller so I can control the speeds and a Blu Ray reader/writer. I like to watch some of my blu ray movies on my computer when the other TVs in the house are being used and its only $50, Im spending $2100 so whats another $50? Half the parts will be bought from Amazon, other half from a nearby MicroCenter on Cyber Monday. Could change if another store has a better sale.

Wow that is a ton of money being spent needlessly. The thermal compound isn't needed - the Cryorig includes some pretty decent compound to begin with. Why so much on case fans? And why include tax and software in the budget? Those are things that should not be included in a system budget.

Also why are you going with a 1KW PSU for a single R9-390? 750W minimum. Even for Crossfire, you don't need to go over 850W.

Software like Sony Movie Studio and Office 13 I already have, just included it to show what I use. Win 10 is $120 because its a retail copy instead of a 1 use OEM.

Included tax because I have to pay it so might as well include it to get as close to my final cost as possible. I dont want to be surprised with an additional $100+ to my final price. Thermal paste is the best on the market and $6 isnt going to break the bank.

1KW PSU is to future proof for upgrades. Planning on getting a least 1 top of the line GPU in 2-3 years so I can run 4k60fps at high settings, maybe add a 2nd soon after. I could drop the PSU for a 750 or 850 and just get a bigger PSU in the future if I need it. Price difference is $30 at Amazon between the 850 and 1000.

5 case fans because I want to load up the case with fans to keep everything nice and cool. I do video editing and rendering which means my CPU will be running close to 100% alot.
