This is my current pc which is about 8 years old. My friend gave me a 9500gt ( Galaxy, 1GB DDR2). I replaced it in the place of 8400gs. I started my pc, it shut off in like 1 minute. I had MSI afterburner, as I used to overclock 8400gs. I opened afterburner somehow as soon as I booted, and the GPU temperature was 120 degrees, which indeed is very strange. This makes sense, why my pc used to shut down, right? What could be my solutions to stop the overheating? Or the GPU itself is faulty? Currently, I'm using 8400gs again. It would be great if you guys could help!
Thanks for reading! :)

Solution
the problem is probably the thermal paste on the GPU. its a really old card so the paste has probably dried up and cracked on it. i would suggest getting a tube of thermal paste and removing the heatsink/fan and repasting it it. that should work just fine for you! i can almost guarantee you that's the problem.
