Looking for any suggestions and opinions on this new build.

I would like opinions and suggestions on the part choices, or if you can see a way to shave off the budget without compromising the build. It's supposed to be a build mainly for gaming.
Processor: Intel Core i5-6500
GPU: gigabyte geforce gtx 970 g1
Power supply: Corsair VS 650
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1 tb
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Kit DDR3 8gb (2x4) 1600
Motherboard: gigabyte Z170-HD3 DDR3 S1151 Z170 ATX
Case: mid tower Carbide Spec-02
Any input is appreciated.
btw: it's my first build

Get a better psu. Any 550w XFX Bronze would be an upgrade and probably cheaper too.
Get a H170 motherboard with ddr4 RAM support and get ddr4 RAM.
Get the cheapest non reference 970.

Why would you recommend ddr4 ram over ddr3?
And which 970, non reference, gpu do you suggest?
