Front Panel Audio - Only 1st Plug (Mic or Headphone Audio Out) Works - Why???

I'm trying to get the sound and mic to work on my headset - at the same time. Only the 3.5mm jack I plug in first works, while the other will not. I checked my motherboard connections and the correct HD Audio is connected (to JAUD1; AC '97 is not being used so it's not connected).

I don't get why... is it because there's not enough power feeding both? I did get a new, much better 750 Watt PSU two days ago, to replace my several years old 500 Watt PSU. However, both the audio out and mic on the front panel worked with my old PSU. The front panel wiring goes straight to the motherboard to the JAUD1 connection, and there is no other connector (besides the AC '97 of course), so the motherboard should be supplying the power to the front panel jacks directly.

What should I check? Is it a software/system issue? In the sound control I see that one or the other is connected, while the other is not showing it's connected.

My motherboard is an MSI Z77A-GD55.

Please help and thanks in advance!

Ok, I figured it out!

It's a software issue. I started off by downloading Realtek HD Audio Manager. This alone didn't solve the issue, per se, as even though both the mic and audio out on the headset worked, all sound was going through the headset and not the home theater speakers. I went to the Realtek settings on the upper right hand corner and selected that there are two separate audio streams. I went to the other setting in Realtek on the bottom right hand corner (the wrench icon) and selected disable front panel jack (for when they don't work properly).

Finally, I went to the Windows sound manager and selected the correct Realtek HD Audio (headset) as the default communications device, and the other Realtek HD Audio (home theater...
