Hello Tom's Hardware Awesome Community!!

I have a SeaGate Barracuda 500GB 3.5in Internal Hard Drive. I salvaged it and want to make it into an external hard drive for my laptop. If I get a 3.5in SATA+DATA to USB 3.0 Cable, will it allow me to clean out the hard drive (via third party program) and use it as an external hard drive (to store game recordings on)? I want to know if I get a SATA to USB Cable (power source included) if I fully clean out the hard drive and turn it into an external hard drive?

Here is the cable:

Hard Drive Info:
Brand: SeaGate
Family: Barracuda
Capacity: 500gb
RPM: 7200
Size: 3.5''

Basically, I want to know if I get a SATA to USB Cable, will I be able to turn an Internal HDD into an External HDD?

Thanks Guys :)

Hey there, OverDoseGaming15!

I'm gonna have to agree with Manker on this one. Yes, you can use this cable with the additional power adapter for you drive, however, it's not a good idea to keep in out in the open like that. It's much better for it to be inside an enclosure. This way you can truly use it as an external drive without having any concerns about its safety being out in the open like that, especially if you plan to move it around and using it with different computers.

Good luck, though! Hope we were helpful. :)

Thanks SuperSoph :)
I do have a case; its a little plastic sleeve to keep it slightly elevated. Its ok because I can wrap it up and stuff. But thanks though for the clarification :)
