My computer runs well for a couple of minutes and then suddenly slows down (again)

A few days ago I posted this thread and I upgraded to 4 GB RAM, unfortunately this didn't change anything. Now I'm even more worried. Thank you for your time.

In the linked thread, they mention looking at the performance tab in task manager. They should have mentioned to click the resource monitor from there and see what is hogging resources.

Also, you shoud run a virus/malware check in safe mode. It is also advisable to run a clean boot to see if it still starts chugging - that will tell you for sure if it's some sneaky program hogging resources.

I see from your other thread you are running Chrome. It can be a real resource hog especially with extensions and whatever installed. Reboot, do not launch Chrome and see if the problem persists.

Chrome is known to bring down MacBooks to a crawl.

I will try the malware check in safe mode later. But the resource monitor doesn't show anything unusual right now.

I have tried not opening Chrome at all, but whatever I do after a few minutes the computer starts slowing down anyway.

Okay, I just updated my gpraphics card drivers and Fallout New Vegas, which was barely running 30 minutes ago now works fine with no framerate problems at all. Would be crazy if this was the whole problem all along. I will update the thread later if the problem persists. Thank you all anyway.

If it happens again make sure you post detailed system specs. Thermal throttling is also a possibility I suppose. How is your cable management and airflow? How old is your windows install? A clean install is almost as good as a new girlfriend. :)

I reinstalled my OS about 3 months ago, it's not very old. Otherwise everything was quite alright. That's why I found this problem really weird.
