Reinstalling windows 8/8.1

I recently found out my HDD from a windows 8 laptop was dead. I replaced it with a new SSD, sealed the laptop back up. Then proceeded to install windows 8.1 via USB. Everything was going fine, all got checked off during installation up to installing updates. "Finishing Up" hadn't checked yet. Now I got a pop-up saying to disconnect external drive, C Drive, then click ok to restart. Well my C drive would be my SSD... The only drive in the system, and the one that's having windows installed right now.

Ideas?

No, I very stupidly didn't even think to try. But I came to this conclusion after checking logical drives via a cmd. Pulled the thumb drive, clicked okay, then immediately plugged it back in. Did the trick. Thanks for the response
