I recently purchase a Netgear AC1750 router as an upgrade to a TP-Link router, which did not support the AC standard. In windows, it shows I am connected via 802.11n. What can I do to make sure my connection uses AC? Thanks.

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Make sure you have different SSID for the 2.4 and 5g bands and force it to use the 5g ssid.

What is most important is the speed is says it connects at. Sometime it will say 802.11n on some router be connected at a speed that can only come from running 802.11ac. Then again if you have a weak signal it may connect at a slower speed and using the 802.11n because it can't get clean enough signals to run the 802.11ac. You may also have to force the 5g radio to only run 80mhz channels if that is a option. Some of them will drop to 20 or 40 if they detect other routers on the channels. This means it will drop to 802.11n speeds also.
