Hello all!

I'm thinking about upgrading my GPU. I've been looking at getting a pair of 390s and crossfiring them; however, would an 800 watt PSU support the crossfire? My mobo is a Gigabyte X-79-UP4

Solution
I can't find any solid specifications about that PSU and the search results from Google aren't pretty.

This forum post seems to indicate that the PSU delivers 50A on the +12V rail, where the major components draw power from. That would give the PSU a maximum wattage of 600W. As the post rightly points out, this is probably peak output rather than sustained output. In other words, running at close to 600W for extended periods of time will probably fry the PSU.

I would definitely change the PSU before you Crossfire an R9 390. In fact, I wouldn't even trust that PSU to run a single 390.

There's a PSU tier list here which gives you a breakdown of what...

Xtremegear 800 watt PSU. I got the computer from CyberPowerPC 4 years ago. Wasn't very educated with computers at the time so I decided to get one professionally built. The PSU failed, the computer was RMA'd, and I received a new one. I'm not sure if they replaced it with a different brand, but I haven't had any problems since.

Depending on the other components in your PC and whether or not you're overclocking, I would recommend a PSU with 1000W. Seasonic are arguably the best in the business followed by XFX, which are essentially re-badged Seasonics.

Okay, thank you for the input. I'm running an OC'd crossfire 7950 with no problems atm. However, I'm almost positive this PSU is modular. There's a single bundle of cables that come out from the left hand side of the PSU and it doesn't look removeable. I'm fine with installing a new PSU, GPU, etc., but wiring is not my forte. Also, since I ordered the PC from CyberPower, I had the option of it being professionally wired. Nearly all the wires are hidden in the chassis of the case.

I would invest, but I don't know how to go about rewiring since the PSU is modular. I wouldn't be able just to unplug all of the cables, swap PSU's, then plug the cables back in.

a quality psu the cables are keyed to fit and marked on the ends for there use ?? atleast the ones I got so far have been ?? I guess you gould cross key a plug and force it in the wrong spot ?? then that falls under carelessness

if you look at these pic's tou can see the plug ends have writing on them to show there use
