I've recently did a new build. I only carried over 2 items from my old build, which were the GPU and HDD/SSDs. I'm now thinking it's a good time to update the GPU as well.
My system:
I7-4790K
EVGA Stinger Z87
8GB 2400 Trident RAM
Cooler master Elite 130 case
and a Powercolor 7870 Myst Tahiti GPU
I'm looking into the Sapphire R9 290. With the closeout of that card, I can get it for a very good price as retailers try to offload stock. I'm a budget minded person, so I usually like snagging up top end old tech on closeout instead of current gen mid-range.
Will this be a good upgrade path based on my new build? My main uses are gaming (1080P, occasionally in stereoscopic 3D) and occasional 3D modeling of small assemblies in SolidWorks.
Any opinions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
