my roommate has a low income and has been wanting a pc.. he was at an auction today and bought a gateway SX802-07 for $5 but its dead in the water.. i think it needs a new power supply, or a fuse. but i don't know much about gateways . does this models power supply have a fuse?

it has a windows 7 license and .. in the case on the housing covering the power supply it say's
LITEON Model NO: PS-5221-06

i wish i could give more info about it but ..until i can boot it up i cant even get a post code.
i did open it up and check the power button to make sure it was conected properly everything seems in order.

Solution
They were proprietary PSUs................If you managed to find one, I'd be surprised if they weren't at least $100.
EDIT: I was close. Aftermarket PSU, out of stock. But $90 here

A more economical option would be to move all the components to a new case & get a standard ATX PSU

Well as you have worked out by now the gateway SX802 is a slimline custom case affair.
Meaning the power supply is not of a standard ATX power supply dimension.
dimension.

All power supplies have an internal fuse inside the housing of the power supply unit.
The fuse, should be when looking at it a surge designed fuse.

Most of the fuses internal to power supplies are physically soldered to the circuit board of the power supply unit.
And will often have a rating that you will not find to be the same as a standard 13amp, or 5amp fuse typically found in most uk wall plugs.

I have no doubt you have at least tried to find one on e-bay, and in the process found that the PSU costs from £40 or more. Due to a fact it is a custom form factor.
You will also probably find also if you try to use a standard Atx power supply that it will not have or contain the right power connector blocks that the custom Liteon PS-5221-06 has. If your lucky and it does.

Your best solution would be to find another case to house the motherboard of the gateway SX802-07 system.
Along with the other components inside that case.
So you can fit a Standard size ATX power supply.
