Can't get a PCIe ethernet card to work

I'm having little faith with the ethernet port on my Dell Inspiron 660's motherboard. So, I bought a gigabit PCIe Network card and followed the simple directions in installing and configuring it. Didn't work. The Dell manual states to disable the onboard LAN controller when installing the PCIe network card, so I did. After restarting, the computer doesn't connect to the internet. I tested the ethernet cable with two other computers and it works fine. I then uninstalled the new PCIe software, restarted the computer and reinstalled the software. Software gave an error message that the PCIe card was not found. When I enabled the onboard LAN controller in the BIOS, the PCIe card still didn't work. I performed a couple of Google searches and tried a number of suggestions but nothing seems to work. BTW, the light on the PCIe card does blink so I am assuming the card is OK. Any suggestions? I'm at my wits end.

Make very sure that PCIe card is properly seated. Look at the ethernet port and make sure that the cable is truly snapped into place without any packaging debris up in there. What color is the blinking light. Does the router show a connection?

It seems that you have a good understanding of the installation process but it is very easy to overlook some step or configuration requirement especially with "simple directions". (Note: it would be helpful to know the make and model router you use and the make and model of the PCIe card.)

At the command prompt run "ipconfig /all". Find out as much as you can about the current card configuration and compare that to your overall network setup. E.g., what IP address is the new PCIe card using (if it is getting an address, what gateway is it looking for?

Another option to think about (for the moment) is to install the card in another computer to test it there. Leave that as a last resort.
