Do you need a new windows 8.1 license when swapping motherboards.

Ive seen mixed answers on whether or not you need a new windows license when you swap to a new motherboard.

So, if i swap to a new motherboard, would i need to purchase another copy of windows? Ive heard that windows 8.1 allows this, but windows 7 and before does not.

Per the OEM License Agreement, if you change motherboards, you are required to purchase a new Windows license (does not apply to retail versions). That said, Microsoft has been lenient about allowing system builders reuse their current license on a new motherboard, provided you adhere to the one PC, one license agreement.
