Hi all. After a long, long day I finally got home with my new components for my computer. But now that everything is hooked up and booting up, I keep running into the 'CPU FAN ERROR' msg after the ASUS symbol of my mobo. It says press f1 to run setup, but I have no idea what to change inside. I am just trying to boot my windows cd so I can get thing going...sigh.

Please enlighten me!!!

Specs:
i5 4690k /w Hyper 212 EVO
asus z97-a mobo
msi 970
650w coolermaster
8gb Hyperx ram
250gb SSD

Solution

in your BIOS settings just change the TEMP warning for your CPU up to what value you choose and you can turn...

You need to reseat your heatsikn on your CPU and PLEASE make sure the CPU FAN power is plugged into the 4 pin most likely labeled "CPU_PWR_FAN" and make sure that your Power is connected to the Motherboard CPU power plug, it should be a plug near the CPU.

I found some posts where users setthe cpu limit to IGNORE. I have done that for the meantime so I can get a windows booted. Thanks in advance!

PS. Holy crap I'm a noob? I didn't have to format anything with windows 10 being previously on my SSD even though I have a new computer, gg.

It is spinning right now, just at a low seed. I have it on IGNORE in the bios currently.

Please download core temp and see if your CPU is overheating, they have these errors for major reasons. last thing you need is your CPU to be fried. I would reseat your heatsink. make sure the pins are connected correctly, and if it is a 4 pin, set it in the BIOS to PWM fan control.

I used Hwmonitor. My cpu with a game up and multi tasking is at 42C max load currently. I am assuming that is a good range

in your BIOS settings just change the TEMP warning for your CPU up to what value you choose and you can turn on or off the temp warning or fan failure warning. Just make sure everything is tight, the connectins are tight, and you have enough power to your CPU fan. Also make sure your CPU fan is plugged into the one lablled "CPU_SYS_FAN" or "CPU_FAN".

Glad you got it working, just keep an eye on your temps, anything above 75C is danger.

Also to fix this and see if its an incorrect bios settings you can reset the cmos
unplug power to the PSU
take out the little battery on your MOBO
HOLD the power button for 15 seconds
resinsert the battery
plug back in psu and boot up computer.
