While gaming computer tends to freeze in 30 second intervals

Hello, I am writing this in hopes that I won't need to spend any money just to be told I could've figured this out myself. For about a month now I have been gaming on a new western digital green 2 tb harddrive which holds all my steam games. I had gotten this new drive in replacement for a 1 tb hdd (generic name; the brand name escapes me atm). Ever since I had replaced the dead hard drive I have come into numerous anomalies with my computer. For instance, when I boot up my pc, there are several strange anomalies that appear in the top left of my screen. I would describe them as giant broken pixels that appear on the screen for a moment. Along with this most, if not all games I run tend to freeze every 30 seconds to a minute getting longer and more obnoxious as time goes on. I'm not sure what I did or what is happening with my computer and I would really like to get this figured out. So far, the people I have consulted said I should put a paging file limit on my hdd, but I can't remember the exact amount, or how to set the paging file. I am currently running my system at 3.26 ghz which I had previously set to 3.7. Lowering this seemed to help for a while but eventually I could negate the performance gain from lowering this.

Not sure if this helps but here are my specs:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz <--- Is actually 3.26; this is just the base clock

Video Card: msi NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

Memory: 24 gb corsair vengeance

OS: windows 7 ultimate x64 (pirated I think, the person I bought the pc off of had blatantly said he pirated games and software too lol. Also ultimate is pretty much the most pirated verision of win. 7 there is)

Display: BenQ xl2420G (still cant get the color settings right, can't decide if gsync or classic is better; OH GOD PLEASE HELP)

HDD: WD green 2 tb

SSD: samsung 128 gb ssd

The drive is probably spining down to save energy when its not being actively sought for data thus when the drive is hit for data it has to spin back up cause ing some lag. If i was you I would havve probably bought a wd black for my games or at least a wd blue. Of course this is just my opinion.

yeah i'll probably ditch this one for a wd black. everyone says they're way better than green, blue, etc. I just need the money and somewhere to buy it from.

It should help with frame stuttering if the GPU is not producing enough enough frames. Set it to whatever your average fps is in that game.

After a whole day of testing, benchmarking, more testing, and giving up. I have concluded that this may be a bigger issue beyond the hard drive. Despite putting a limit on the paging file, (which I wasn't expecting to do much) I still suffered with horrible framerate drops, client-side lag/freezing, etc. Capping my framerate like I said earlier and using a locked refresh rate only seemed to hurt my performance. Even turning down graphical settings all the way down yielded the same results. I am quite sure it's not my GPU as that would be pretty f@*(ing disappointing if my gpu had a hand in this considering that its very new. I have and am defragging my drives and making sure i have the latest windows 7 service packs, geforce experience, etc. but I still am freezing quite badly for an entire second in every game.

So the temperature is normal? And have you tested for faulty ram?

Yes, the temperature is completely normal and stays where it should. As for faulty ram how should I go about testing that?
