My printer (a Canon Pixma MG6250) has stopped to print correctly even after a deep headprint cleaning, so I have to manually clean these.

I've looked at differen tutorials, but I have found a great number of different methods:
- use fresh water directly on the printheads
- submerge the printheads on distilled water
- remove or not the tampons around the printheads
- use a specific "clean printhead" liquid
- ...

What do you think is the more efficient? Is it risky? What is the one you are using?

I had a blockage just on pigment black this week (Canon iP4200). Tried every trick in the book to shift it, soaked printhead in warm soapy water for two hours, left it to dry for two days. Still no joy. Printer now outside waiting for refuse collector. It was 9 years old anyway so it doesn't owe me anything.

Received new Canon printer from Amazon yesterday. Excellent build quality, beatiful photo output.

So don't get your hopes too high with the printhead cleaning if blockage is very severe - - it may not do any good.
