Hi everyone.
A while ago while moving my pc tower got dropped down the stairs. The sata hard drive that has the OS on it was fine. I now have a new pc, ie new mobo, psu, graphica card etc.
I want to use that hard drive in the new pc as i still want the data and programs that are on it.
I have connected it to the new pc and done repairs to no avail. All i get is the blue screen of death.

The OS is windows 7 pro 64 bit and the new pc also has an ssd

Any ideas?

This is asked everyday.

You cannot use an already installed OS on a new machine, because the existing OS has drivers for the old machine, doesn't know anything about the new machine. You MUST install OS from scratch for it to load new drivers and re-install all your programs. There is a MICROSOFT TRANSFER WIZARD which may move your programs so you don't have to reinstall them but I haven't tried it myself.

When you boot, have you gone to Boot Manager and made sure that your new PC's main drive is selected as the boot device? You won't be able to run programs off the old HDD, but you should be able to view the drive in Windows and set the permissions of the drive to allow your new PC's user account to read/write from the drive.
If you can't boot with the old HDD installed though then it's likely that your old drive is faulty.

Thanks for your help guys. I got it all sorted now as i was thinking that may happen.
I had to install xp then use my windows 7 upgrade disc to do a clean install. Works like a charm now.
