Okay, so I'm looking for some help/advice regarding an upgrade that I have in mind. A little while ago I was bought a Store bought Gaming PC, the time has come where i want to upgrade it. I plan on keeping the existing i7 4790 Processor, HDD, RAM, GPU and the PSU that I added a little while ago. I will be putting in a new motherboard, which I know will require me to buy a new copy of windows, but will there be any problems with the CPU similar to the motherboard debacle?such as it being locked to that board, copy of windows or anything else?

Thanks in advance :)

no its the prebuilts motherboards proprietary bios that can lock out certain hardware upgrades

all you should need is a new board that's compatible with your chip [check the bios revisions to see what bios supports you chip - your chip is a refresh and may require a bios that's over first release and is so and the new board ships with a first release bios you may not be able to boot [say your chip needs bios 1.04 bios and your new board comes to you with bios 1.00 you would need a supported chip under 1.00 in order to flash to 1.03 for your chip to work ] - then what form factor you will need [if reusing the prebuilt case ]

most guys do what you want to do cause they cant upgrade there prebuilt board with the parts they...

so if your reusing everything but the board I don't get why if its working fine ??

should post what you got now brand model and all so we can look it over to see what you got to work with

Not reusing the case, its far too small. Want to upgrade the gpu once all this is done. the board is miniATX with only one usable PCI express slot. also, the case that it's in is really small, so getting bad temps too.

I want to use this motherboard, which will apparently work

Will my i7 4790 work with this motherboard?
