Ok so im buying new PC parts for christmas and i was wondering if i had to get a new OS with it. Im getting a new CPU, motherboard and ram and i dont want to pay an extra 100 eur for something that i already own. My hard drive already has windows 8 on it but i dont know if i have to get a new one because of the cpu?

Welcome to the community, flat lander!

You'd most definitely need a new genuine OS, since you'd be upgrading the CPU, motherboard and RAM. Seems like it's going to be an entirely new system in your old PC rig. The OS communicates with the motherboard, whereas the HDD is just a carrier/storage for the system files. Despite having it installed in your hard drive, you won't be able to use it on the new mobo.

Hope I helped. Best of luck with the upgrade! :)
