Old HDD in a new build. Is it compatible?

Hello,

I have a Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 7200RPM 32Mb SATAII from my old build (~7 years old) that I would like to use in my new rig. I thought of using an SSD for the OS and the old hardisk for storage.
I wanted to know if it's compatible (my mobo supports SATAII and SATAIII)? Or if it's better to just have a new SATAIII 64gb cache HDD instead?

Thanks you,

BooDal

Solution
Yes it would fine but not at sata3 speed. In real world, you probably will not notice the difference however. A new 1t WD blue is only $50. Totally depends on your budget.

Thanks for the reply.

If the speeds are not noticeable then I will stick with the old sata2 drive along with an SSD. It will save me a few bucks cuz I'm on a tight budget and I think SSD speeds are far better then HDD's. I also forgot to mention I have another external 500Gb WD mypassport HDD.
