I was on PCPartPicker and I chose a motherboard. Then I got a warning saying "Some Intel B85 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Haswell Refresh CPUs". I was just wondering if I have to be concerned with this "issue" or if I can simply fix it by just updating it somehow. How exactly do I update it though? Im kind of a noob to building computers so please dont use complicated wording for your answers.
Also, I chose an Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor and a MSI B85-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150 Motherboard.

Thanks!

Solution
Haswell Refresh CPUs require BIOS version 2.5 or later.

v2.5 was released in February 2014 so you shouldn't need to worry about updating it. It should support Haswell Refresh straight out of the box unless the board you receive has been sitting on a warehouse shelf for 18 months.

I'm looking at buying the same CPU with the GIGABYTE GA-B85M-DS3H-A motherboard. This should be fine too right? I would rather not have to update the bios.

On their website under bios for the motherboard it says:

1. 2 x 32 Mbit flash
2. Use of licensed AMI EFI BIOS
3. Support for DualBIOS™
4. PnP 1.0a, DMI 2.7, WfM 2.0, SM BIOS 2.7, ACPI 5.0

When it comes to motherboards I don't have very much knowledge about them. Can you tell me what it means?

It has 2.7 Bios, which is compatible with the processor you want
