My motherboard is not posting to bios and I do not know why, can anybody give me some ideas?
Things I have tried:
Resetting CMOS did not work
2 different graphics cards (one at a time) didn't work
Graphics cards in other PCIe 16x slot did not work
Re-seating CPU (Core 2 Quad Q6600) did not work
Changing PSU twice did nothing
Changing thermal compound didn't work either

I haven't tried using different RAM, because I know that this system once worked fine, and was stored away for a few years after random shut-downs, and taking different DIMMs out in different combos didn't work.

I am really out of ideas now, and I don't have any money to spend on this system right now. Thankyou for reading :)

Solution
The reason for this is that you RAM slot(s) have died... as the motherboard is old
the board does not know what to do so it wont beep or post.

My P5N E SLI died the same way.... i also had the Q6600 on it :)

I am sorry to say that a repair wont be possible.. get a LGA 775 motherboard if you can (Its very rare)
or save and get a new pc

Thanks.

Thanks for the insight, I'll give it one last try, and see if anything works, but if not, I'll throw it out. Thing is, this isn't actually my personal rig. It's just one I hoped that I could get working without having to spend anything. It doesn't matter too much if it died. Once again, thank you :D

Well, I've got it out and gave it a try. First thing, I installed it in a case which had a speaker, then I took out all RAM, and i got a constant beep error code. I re-installed all 4 dimms, and the error message turned to a 1 long beep then three short beeps, but I don't know what it means. I tried replacing the video card with a different one, and the beeping stopped, but nothing displays on screen, and I know the connections are right, and that the card works.
I really don't know what to do at this stage.

Try populating 1 slot at time i.e. try with only 1 stick of ram and see what happens.
I would try different ram on different slots and then keep adding ram till it stops booting to find the culprit
It is definitely the RAM or the ram slot.

Okay, so it's been about a month and a half since I posted about these issues, and I think I might have an answer. One of the power 2 supplies died in another system, when I looked at it, I realised that they were both 20 pin mobo connectors instead of 24 pins, and they had gotten too hot. I think the issue was due to the TDP of the Q6600 and the fact that I was only using 20 pin PSUs. I have a second scrap rig which has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 in it, and that runs fine on a 20 pin PSU, but maybe since the Athlon machine has a lower TDP, then the 20 pin PSU can just provide for the system, I'm going to test this out when I get my hands on a spare PSU with a 24 pin connector. I'm 99% sure that RAM is not an issue here, because I've reseated it at lest 30 times now. Also after a few minutes of being on, I can only feel heat coming from the heatsinks on the chipset and around the CPU, I can't really feel any heat coming from the CPU itself.

UPDATE 18.2.16
It lives! A few days after posting that, I left the system on and was recording some footage of it's abnormal behaviour, when it suddenly POSTed out of nowehere! It was using the 20 pin PSU, so I went on eBay and bought a cheap unit that was 24 pin, I know they're bad and not efficient at all, but this isn't my main rig, so I really don't care. That hasn't helped, but after 30 minutes of being on after a cold boot, it will POST and work just fine. I've checked the RAM, all 4 gigabytes are detected. I have stress tested the CPU and it holds great. After it has posted, I can either restart with the case button, to which it will POST immediately, however if I hold the case power switch and turn it on straight after, it will take a long time to POST again. I'm guessing that's something to do with the motherboard then, but I think it could be fixed with a reflow on the northbridge / southbridge. I doesn't matter too much, as long as I know what is wrong and how it can be fixed, then I'm at comfort. Thanks for looking at the thread and giving some advice, I value it :)
