since amazon is having a sale on the Intel pantium g3258 anniversary edition, i decided that maybe its time to upgrade my old computer and it has a Msi N1996 mother board, and i was wondering if those 2 would work together. and any recommendation on what ram i should use?

You need a socket LGA 1150 motherboard for the G3258. For example:

Depends on what your use for the old PC is. If you want to make it a gaming PC, forget it. You will need to either build/buy a new PC or start replacing parts like motherboard, CPU, RAM, and possibly HDD if the old one is still a PATA interface.
