I need to run ethernet cable underneath my house to relocate my router for optimal performance. What type of cable will i need? Im in Southern California so, low humidity and the coldest it gets around here in the winter is still 40 to 45 farenheit. Should i use Plenum rated (maybe even shielded) or is direct burial an option?

If this is in a crawl space and the wire does not come in contact with the ground you likely can use normal ethernet cable. The main issue is many types of soil will damage the plastic coating so if you are going to bury it you must have either special cable or some kind of conduit to protect it.

Plenum cable is mostly related to fire codes. It does not give off as much toxic gases when it burns. Generally you will have bigger things to worry about if you get a fire that can burn your cables. The ethernet cable itself does not carry enough energy to start a fire itself.

it is going in a crawl space under the house. I am mostly worried about possible moisture or rodents chewing at it. I dont think it will be touching the ground, it will probably get tacked to the foundation somehow if i dont use conduit. It wont be me going under the house so im not sure what it looks like exactly yet.
