Computer Boots in Wrong Order

Hey all,

So randomly out of the blue my computer decided it wanted to start booting from my DVD/CD Drive instead of the usual SSD that has my OS on it. Now this makes turning on the computer an odd experience. When I power it on, everything turns on except the displays for a few seconds then a BIOS screen appears on one of my monitors meaning it didn't port right (I think).

Now I give it a few more seconds (after this BIOS screen disappears) and boom everything starts up fine.

To my understanding it went to the DVD/CD Drive as its first boot option then to my SSD as the second.

Now I went into my BIOS menu (I have a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3) and saw that the DVD/CD Drive became my first boot option...somehow. So I changed it back. However its still booting from the DVD Drive first no matter what.

My question is: Is this really detrimental to the computer at all? It still boots just fine but should I be concerned in any way that its doing this? Could I just unplug the DVD/CD Drive since I hardly use it? I appreciate the help.

Make sure you "Save changes and Reboot" after setting the Boot Order how you want in BIOS. And remove any disc from disc drive.

You might also check and see if there is a BIOS update for your board from Gigabytes website.

It is not likely the CMOS battery, as they last a LONG time. Feel free to change it if you like though, and it wouldn't hurt to clear CMOS anyway.

Something has caused the Boot Order to change though. If all above fails, try this:

Power down. Disconnect the disc drive and any other drives - other than OS drive of course.
Power up and see what happens.

Then power down, and reconnect disc drive.

Restart and see how it goes.
