so i bought call of duty black ops 3,once i started it i maxed everything out,the game ran pretty bad, so i had to play around with graphics settings while in game to detect what actually caused that poor performance,i stopped at 'shadow map quality' i set it to high instead of extra and the game ran good at 60 fps , i just had to make sure that specific option was the problem, so i kept changing it from high to extra and from extra to high,i did that like 3 times,at the third time the fps was locked at 30 ! then it went back to 60 then the game crashed, what i want to know is can gpus get broken if an idiot like me messed up with graphics settings? i mean why did the game crach? was that like a safeguard from the gpu ?

Solution
the settings you change in game have no effect on the health of a GPU.

Buying copy after copy of call of duty however has an effect on more stupid games being pushed out.
