Ping spikes momentarily and periodically. I think it might be an issue with my mobo, need opinions

Hey guys, I have been trying to diagnose a problem for nearly two months now and I am finally admitting defeat. I hope that someone here can take a crack at my problem and possibly do better than I did. The problem is that my ping spikes up to 300-500 and sometimes 1k+ almost every 20 seconds for 1-2 seconds, otherwise the ping is stable at 36-44. When browsing online, it's hardly noticeable but infuriating when playing online games. I've tried using network card, wired, and wireless adapter (i'm on desktop). The only consistent one was the wireless adapter with the ping range between 90-130 and no higher. At that ping range, I can play my games but there is some lag which is infuriating but not so much as the massive lag spikes experienced from wired/NIC. I pinged my router when on NIC and the result is pasted below:

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:

There were way more pings but I had to condense it down to fit in the message. Wired and NIC behaved pretty much the same, but it was different on adapter. Since NIC and Wired were directly on the mobo, I think it's a motherboard problem, but I can't say for sure. My mobo is Maximus hero vii, and I had just updated the bios recently. I've also updated all the PCE drivers, and I believe all of my LAN drivers are updated as well. At least none of those are being flagged as outdated on drivermax. I don't believe that it's my ISP, but there may be a culprit that I'm overlooking. Please help me, I'm really desperate at this point.

Just a friendly tip, if you start your conputer in safe mode with networking and go online and whatnot, if you notice you don't have any ping spikes or latency drops then you know it's not system files, services, or drivers.

This will mean is a 3rd party program causing the latency drops. Meaning anything from installers to game downloaders, Downloader period, this is why you monitor the network traffic and see what is using up your net. You end that program. Find out what it is aND get rid of it.
Alot of times it ends up being anti virus programs
Since all the windows 10 updates even to 7 and 8 to prepare it. Avg, and Symantec have been the most prominent for these kind of things as I have noticed personally.

You need to call your ISP to have them test the internet. This is one of the most difficult problems to have on internet, if your not using a 5g channel i would recommend changing the channel of your 2.4ghz, ping spikes can occur when any type of interference from telephones to microwaves are in the vicinity.

You could also be suffering from packet collision, this typical results in ping spike and loss of packets for a brief moments, Miliseconds. I would make sure that your internet adapter driver is the most up to date it can be. As this can also cause it.

You can also use your GameFirst III to give more bandwidth to you while gaming. as this does come with a network monitor aswell.

I don't believe that this is an ISP issue because adapter is fine whereas NIC and Wired are not. I am on 5g channel, but I swapped to 2.4g to check it out just now and the issue persists.

Hm packet collision? How do I go about diagnosing that? I checked out GameFirst III but I couldn't find any download links for it. Does this come with the mobo in the form of a cd?

Yes, its on your original Mobo CD that you got with the MOBO.
Please goto Start --> Run --> type services.msc and press OK --> Click on Action and then Export List.. --> Save it to an easy-to-reach location as services.txt --> Open up that text file, and copy/paste the results into your next reply.

I ran the cd that the mobo came with. There is no option to install GameFirst 3. I will check the net to see if there is a download link for it, but I don't think it will be the solution to the problem.

Click on Start > type "services.msc" in the search field and press enter. In the "Services" window, look for the following entry: SSDP Discovery. Double click and set the "Startup type" as "Disabled"
also set Backround Intellegent Transfer Service to Disabled,
Disable "IP Helper"

After can you please open task manager, go to network, and take a screenshot of all the network utilization and post?

This almost has to be a driver issue. Normally I would be asking....do you have a killer chipset....but you have intel which tends to be very stable.

The killer chipset tries to prioritize game traffic over other. The so called gamefirst from intel does the same but it is not as integrated into the driver as killer is. These type of software tend to cause all kinds of strange issues and are best not used.

These types of software are only useful for very stupid people. You would only need this when you are sending large amounts of data from your pc at the same time you are playing games and need the game to have priority. If you are worried about game performance why would you be stupid enough to run a large file transfer at the same time in the first place. Its easier to just not do stupid stuff than to try run software to bail you out.

If this is a windows 10 system you need to search for drivers that say they are compatible with windows 10. You want to try to use the motherboard drivers first before you try the ones from intel. The one you want to avoid are the ones from microsoft that are built into windows 10 these tend to have the most strange issues.

You could I suppose try to ping another machine in your house or maybe ping the router from a different machine just to be sure it is not the router. Delays like this are very strange in a lan environment because equipment generally can not hold data that long.

Haha yea, it's never a good idea to play games online games while downloading massive files. I'm sure someone out there has other uses for the application though.

The problem persists between him and communication between the router.

Open cmd prompt
Type ipconfig /release
Type ipconfig /Flushdns
Type ipconfig / renew

Also in your router setti ng s usually 192.168.x.1 x being 1,2,3,4 usually the lower ones.
Once inside you can turn off ip flood detection and alter a few other setting like increasing the TX power to high, then ontop of that change the fragmentation to the best settiing for you to avoid packet collisions if someone else is also on the web.

I tried those command prompts and had no luck. I also booted the computer on safe mode with network but I had no internet connection at all on safe mode despite the fact. Are we on to something here?

Edit: Nevermind, I'm connected to the internet. The icon showed that I wasn't but I actually am. So far I'm seeing some spikes at the 130 range but nothing higher. This is looking good! I'll let the ping run for a couple more minutes.

Edit: Stable internet connection on Safe mode w/ network. Logged back on to normal mode and closed apps while monitoring the ping. Got to the AV (Bitdefender) and disabled it. Ping is looking stable now! So I think the problem might be AV. Do you know how I can go about fixing this or do I have to ditch Bitdefender entirely?

Ditch bit defender, delete that thing please! Download Avast free antivirus, its a great program. I am very happy I could help you solve your internet spikes. I had a suspicion it was an AV causing it.

For anyone reading this in the future, setting BitDefender to Game Profile or ditching it altogether may solve your ping spikes!
