Hi all

so as a first time comp builder, I have 2 generic silly questions:

asus x99 a/usb3.1, + 5820k,

1) per the qualified vendor list, I probably will get the 32GB 3000mhz or 32GB 2800 mhz corsair DDR4 memories, my question is, some of them come with additional fan that go on top of the memories, are they really necessary for 2800/3000 mhz sticks?

2) on the motherboard, the memory slots are black/gray/black/gray on both sides, (i believe A1/A2, B1/B2....etc). does it matter where I put my sticks? if I have 4x8G, do they have to go on A1-B1-C1-D1?

thanks!!!!

no fans are not needed on them
a1/b1/c1/d1 is best to give the quad channel performance that board and cpu both have

As a first timer Watch static and never touch copper contacts on ram etc super careful taking the cpu plastic cover off and cpu insertion, those pins in cpu slot are so easy to bend

Thanks Mark!

since you mentioned that, when I installed my cpu, I noticed a small metallic thing among the sea of pins on the motherboard, I thought it looked like dust or something, which was strange for a new board, that plastic thing you mentioned, the back of it has lots of fiber/dust, would this be a concern? should I take out the cpu and somehow clean those pins? what's the worst disaster if there are dust or a few bend pins under the cpu?

sorry got so many questions. would greatly appreciate your help.

oh and one last thing, none of the corsair memory qualified by the asus x99 a board are available on newegg, the one (CMK32GX4M4B3000C15), is avaialble but not on the motherboard's qualified vendor list, even though the memory itself says "tested for x99 compatibility", the corsair website only indicates it's for asus x99 deluxe, would it be fine if I use these memories?

thank you !!!!

When you say metallic, that sounds like a worry, dust fibre on a new mobo? sounds like it was tampered with before . you can buy compressed air (pure) in a can from pc shops etc, that is all i would use to clean the cpu slot pins, got a magnifier to inspect?

As for memory, there is too many for them to test for their QVL as long as it is ddr4 at the rated mhz or larger and is non ECC, non registered, unbuffered it will work.. Also a kit of four that says its for quad channel memory config. You may want XMP on the ram but if not ,not a worry( XMP can be disabled/enabled in bios). Your processor is rated for DDR4 1333/1600/2133 so 2133 would do but higher mhz will still work it just clocks back.Only if you overclock cpu, then those higher mhz rams come into use as the clock will require higher power ram to cope
Asus says it needs : DDR4 3200(O.C.)/3000(O.C.)/2800(O.C.)/2666(O.C.)/2400(O.C.)/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory
