I'm running WiFi on my desktop since a couple of months but tonight I suddenly "can't connect to this network". Me smartphone can connect as usual, my chromecast can connect but not my PC.
I run win 10 and use an ASUS PCE-AC68 network card.

Full signal, can't connect!?

Force windows to forget the network and then try connecting to it again.
I tried that but made no difference.

You can try turning on personal hotspot on your phone and see if you can connect to that. That will narrow down your troubleshooting significantly.
Connecting to the hotspot works but I still can't connect to the Wi-Fi with my desktop. Smartphone and Chromecast still connect just fine... I don't know what to do.'
Just tried uninstalling the ASUS network adapter utility with driver and reinstalling, did nothing...

Hmm... looked at your Network card properties lately?

Check bindings like Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP settings (automatically obtain IP address and DNS server)

Something to do with your Network connection device.

You could try the old Internet setup wizard in "Internet Options" (control panel)

One of the reasons why you loose or cannot connect to a network you could previously can be down to two things.

Windows has lost the type of network.
By that i mean it`s identification of the type of network within windows settings.
Public or a private network.

Simply set up a new network in windows, and select the network device.
And the Status of the network Private or Public home network for example.

Also be aware that if you have windows security center or windows firewall running to set the security settings to medium and not high. As it can result in no connection to your home network.

Never run a software firewall at the same time as the routers hardware firewall, it will lead to connection problems.
Set your hardware firewall of your router to it`s medium setting and not high as this can also cause connection to the network problems.

Hmm IPv4 and 6 both have obtain IP and DNS automatically checked if that's what you meant? I'm really not good with connection and network stuff sorry.

Aha, I don't have easy access to the router though. I live in a student apartment building and the wifi is shared with everyone in the building. I don't have any firewall turned on.

It's so weird: I can connect my desktop to my smartphone hotspot. I can connect my smartphone and chromecast to the building wifi. It makes no sense to me... It has worked for the last couple of months what gives...
What do I need to do to diagnose what's happened? The win10 diagnostic thing tells me to restart router, do you think this would fix it?
