Disappointed with 290x crossfire looking for upgrade or solution

So as said in the title I have a 290x crossfire setup and so far it's been pretty terrible for the games I play. A lot of games (fallout 4, witcher 2 , far cry 4 , dragon age inquisition and many more ) perform worse or have very minor fps improvements compared to a single gpu. Other games that don't immediately suffer from bad fps I get some weird forward stutter that forces me to turn off the crossfire. Although there are games that do work well like gta 5 and witcher 3 and there are some solutions coming out slowly for some games, I'm pretty much running on one card for 80% of my games and I'm tired of solving crossfire issues. So the question, assuming I can sell my 290x's for about 60% of the original price is it worth getting something like a 980ti? Or am I the only one having these problems and there's something wrong with my com.

You seem to be having worse than normal luck with your setup. Since you are having so many of the problems, moving to the best single card one generation newer may be your best choice. Or perhaps wait 6 months since the best high end card of the next generation from AMD and Nvidia should be quite the step up.

so if i manage to sell my two cards for a total of about 430 bucks, will the performance from a 980ti be worth the 200 dollars? given that it'll be a jump from basically a single 290x.
