I was planning to revive a 5 years old desktop by buying a new GPU. r7 265 caught my attention and was planning to buy it next week. Good idea or bad?

My Core 2 Duo E6850 clocked @ 3ghz has a hard time feeding info to my current 260X as it is, I can't imagine going to a 265. Chances are you have a SATA II Hard drive as well and that definitely doesn't help in combination with an ancient processor architecture, ddr2 and then a new gpu architecture.

Thanks for the answer, btw can you recommend me a nice graphics card for my old computer? My current graphics card is 9600gt and I just want to upgrade it maybe.

You really don't want to spend any money on that system. I was like you, thinking I could revive my Core 2 Duo System. They're just too outdated for modern games. You should not keep pouring money into it. That's what I did and I spent upwards of $200 when I could have put that towards my skylake i5 + gtx 970 system I'm building now.
