Im going to build a new micro atx form factor gaming system and I want to use air cooling instead of liquid cooling. i am not thinking of overclocking just yet but might in a few months or so. The choice of cpu cooler is between Noctua NH-D14, Noctua NH-U12S and Noctua NH-U14S. but I cant make my mind up which ine to get as I was wondering which of these coolers would best suit my system and would they be compatible with the socket 1151

The system will be

Skylake 6700k
Asus maximus viii gene
G. Skills= ripjaws v 16gb
Evga gtx 760
samsung evo 120gb ssd
Seagate barracuda 2tb
Corsair ax 860

I think it will depend on the case you use and how far you intend to overclock. Any of those will work on an 1151 socket and be fine for a decent overclock. Noctua also has low profile coolers that are great for smaller cases but you might run into issues with RAM clearance. It would help to look at other peoples builds using the case you want and see what works for them, or see if the case manufacturer list specs for cooler clearance.

I'm currently using a fractal design define r4 but I think the case is going to be over kill for the system Im about to build unless I require a lot of storage and will then require the full 8 HDD trays but that wont be an issue for me so I'm thinking of getting a fractal define mini which will still allow for 6 HHD for storage which will be enough storage for me.

The specs for that case show a maximum cooler height of 160mm. Based on that, I think all three will fit. Also a Cryorig H7 will fit. I'm not sure about working with the RAM you chose. The Cryorig would likely work, or you could just switch to a low profile RAM.
