So, I just bought a new SSD due to a failing HDD and since day one it's been giving me random freezes.. lately, it either decides to freeze on the 'Welcome' windows 7 screen, or it freezes randomly while I'm using the PC. Sometimes instead of freezing it will just auto-restart, and when it starts up again it gives me the 'DISK BOOT FAILURE' msg. Then I power it off, start it up again and it tends to load Windows just fine second time, allowing me to use my pc from anywhere between 5 minutes to several hours before freezing again.

I'm running in IDE mode, because I have never been able to run AHCI without freezing, even on my old HDD. I know this sounds like an SSD problem, but I've run dskchk and everything seemed to be fine. I've also run Windows 7's System Repair to see if the problem was with the OS, and that was fine as well. I know my PSU has enough power, as it's a 750w corsair and I have nothing overclocked.

Is this an SSD, or motherboard, or software issue? I'm not very knowledgeable in the PC ways. Could you guys please help? Thanks in advance..

Chipset drivers are up to date and it was a clean install of win 7.

As for AHCI it doesnt necessarily freeze, however the pc wont boot to windows if I set it to AHCI. I've read this could be normal if windows was installed when BIOS was in IDE mode tho?
