I am looking to buy an "Ultrabook" - or Laptop - and have been looking doing some (Google-)research. I stumbled upon two models: Dell XPS 13 and Lenovo Yoga 700.
I program a lot of simulations, unfortunately though, I haven't honed that particular skill yet and therefore drain my computers' resources. Ergo, I need a proper CPU-unit.
The Dell was quite a bit more expensiev than the Lenovo. In my mind, I therefore expected the Dell to have a lot more impressive specs than the Lenovo.

In this case the difference is SEK:s (Monopoly money) is 17 990 - 10 581 = 7409 SEK:s ( i chose not to convert the currency as it makes the difference more dramatic). I looked at the specs and found:

  • ■ Dell XPS 13 - Lenovo Yoga 700
    ■CPU: Core i7 / Core i7
    ■frequency: 2.4 GHz / 2.5 GHz
    ■Cache: 4 MB / 4 MB
    ■Max. Freq.: 3 GHz / 3.1 GHz
    ■Generation: 5 / 6
    ■Model: I7-5500U / I7-6500U
    ■# Cores: 2 / 4
    ■GPU: Intel HD Graph.s 5500 / Intel HD Graphics 520
    ■Scr. Size: 13.3" / 14"
    ■RAM: 8 GB / 8GB
That has to be one amazing GPU to justify the price difference! Is there a reason as to why the Dell is more expensive. Could it be something I don't understand like "Dell is such a strong brand, therefore people will buy their computers despite the price" or has it do do with the interplay between the different parts in the computer which makes the Dell stronger and, therefore, more expensive. If the Lenovo is the better equipped computer, then great! I love to pay less to get more. Somehow, however, I suspect that this is not the case.

Why is the Dell the better Laptop?
