I'm going to buy a new computer in a couple of weeks, and I'm planning to get 12gb of DDR4 memory, running at 2666 MHz. Mobo is going to be ASRock Z170 Extreme3, with 3x4GB sticks of HyperX FURY DDR4-2666 (2x4GB and 1x4GB sets). Will there be any performance issues with mobo's dual channel utility?

Solution
2x8gb, less sticks is less strain on the memory controller and performance is still going to be the same. Plus it leaves slots open for future upgrade.

You will need to install memory in pairs to get the full bandwidth of dual channel mode. Otherwise you are stuck in single channel. It best to get the pair of modules now as you will need to match that exact module to get a full stable dual channel setup. So you will need 2x4 or 4x4 or some combination of pairs. My advise is to get 2x8 (if you can afford it, rather than 4gb modules)

Well, if I bought 16GB, would it be better to buy 4x4GB or 2x8GB?
