Will a 144hz, 1440p monitor be worth it with a single GTX 970?

Hello!

With the first day of Black Friday week just around the corner, I have spotted some good deals on day 1. The one I am interested in, is the Acer Predator XB1270HU. Which is on deal for 25% or more.

What I am concerned about, is will it be worth buying this monitor with my current setup? Because I really don't want to be paying a lot of extra money for features I won't be able to reach on my rig.

Here is my setup:
- i5 4690K
- GTX 970 STRIX
- H97-PRO
- 8GB Corsair Vengeance Ram

Any guidance on this will probably save my a lot of money, so thank you for reading. I greatly appreciate it.

Have a nice day!

I think a GTX970 is a very good card for a 1440P monitor.
Plan on keeping your current monitor attached as a side monitor.
It will not affect 1440P gaming at all.

You will get the advantage of the bigger size and higher resolution, and might let you reduce aa which is a heavy draw for a graphics card.
1440hz will be irrelevant, it would take much stronger graphics to get you significantly higher than 6ofps.

Thank you for your reply :)

I do play a decent amount of CS:GO and I will be playing Battlefrount which, in the beta I reached about 90-70 fps on 1080p. Do you think I should look elsewhere for a 60hz 1440p monitor and ignore this deal?

So do you think I should go ahead with my plan of buying it if it goes below £350?

To get the benefits of a 144hz over a 60hz monitor, you need to get more than 60fps. A single 970 will get you ~60fps on high/ultra settings in latest games. For games like CSGO, a 1080p 144hz monitor like Benq XL2411z is enough. For everything else, a 60hz 1440p monitor will be more economical, unless you plan on getting another GTX 970, or dialing down the graphics waaay low.

Hey, I am in the exact same predicament as you...with almost identical hardware.

What do you think about the: BenQ GW2765HT

It's 27", IPS, 1440p but instead of offering 144Hz it only offers 60Hz which is probably as much as the GTX970 can handle...oh and it is at least £100 cheaper.

It would be cool to know if you had ruled the BenQ out for any particular reason?

I'm literally going to get a GTX 970 + VG24 (144hz) today. I will compare back to back with my current 1080 60 hz. But no doubt in SOME uses you'll be destroying the 125fps mark so 144 hz wouldn't hurt either way.

I am also getting the 144 refresh due to the fact in the future if I go SLI or upgrade I don't want to buy another monitor.

So I will see my fps in a variety of games on 1440p on both 144 and 60hz and give you some news if you would like.

The nature of the beast is that anyone who would like to play games at 144hz and be able to pump out the FPS to match will need to spend alot more that $350 even $500 will not be enough for the expectations of games within the next 6 months.

Simply put, if you have the cash spend it, but diminishing returns on cash> FPS become apparent.

I apologize for my late reply.

After having 60hz for so long, I would really like to experience 144hz. Mainly for CS:GO and other easy to run games. Also, if I wanted those specs you mentioned, I would go with a Dell Ultrasharp. They do these specs I believe.
