Is the ATI Radeon R7 240 1GB DDR5 an upgrade to the ATI Radeon 4850 HD 512 MB?

hey,

i had a bad experience with the gt 730 2gb ddr5 as the video playback quality of this card was horrible. hd movies looked fuzzy and at times, some images/jpegs looked grainy.

now, i want to buy a graphics card to watch hd in true hd quality. i was thinking of the sapphire r7 240 1gb ddr5 as i don't game that much and i feel that ati radeon cards are better when it comes to video playback. so, will it be an upgrade to my previously owned palit ati radeon 4850 hd and will it play hd movies on my pc and on youtube at true hd quality where 720p looks 720p and not 480p?

- i5-3330
- gigabyte b75m-d3h
- 8 gb ram ddr3

any suggestions?

please help!

thanks,
kuber

could you recommend a card, not too expensive, to play hd movies at hd movie quality, like the 4850 hd? i have a 400w smps.

The ATI 4850 HD is a old card, but it's enough to see movies in HD... I assumed you wanted a current card with similar features. Check your drivers with SDI R420

And check your codecs www.codecguide.com

Good luck!

My Zotac 240GT DDR3 handles everything fine on an old system. My Sapphire 6670 has some issues I've narrowed down to the TV tuner brand and graphics updates and whether the TV source is set at the time of operations. The integrated graphics (4600?) there handle everything fine anyway.

The lower down you get into the R7 linup, the older card you get. Most of them are just refreshes. The R7 260 has media decoders built in that can help accelerate newer video codecs and such.
