Hi all, so I just built a new computer and all I have for storage is a 7200 rpm 1 tb portable USB HDD. I was wondering how I can have it plugged in to the USB port, have the os boot like a normal HDD, and be able to store all my programs and files onto it.

I have a laptop so I can partition the drive. If anyone could link me to a guide or help me out here, that'd be awesome:)

Tl;dr: I want my portable hard drive to act like a regular, primary hard drive

Thanks!

Solution
Most usb external drives have a normal sata hard drive inside.
You could possibly remove the enclosure and use the hard drive inside in your pc.

1. A portable USB HDD is not really good for a perm solution. Far too susceptible to damage. Dropping, falling off the desk, etc.
But, it can work if you are careful.

2. Is this the ONLY drive? If so, that will not work. You need an internal something for the OS.

Took off the case and what do you know, there's a full sata hdd. Thanks so much!
