Today i was writing something on notepad then i saved it , after a while i opened the same file and i had lost all words i wrote after july , i right clicked on the file and then properties and it said last time modified July 6 and it had a check on archive box. This is the second time this happens to me , i dont understand why it does that , is it possible to retrieve the words i lost? all of them were important passwords.

This happened after i copied the saved file from my usb stick to documents.

The problem is that yesterday and all these months it worked perfectly so even if i saved it somewhere else it wouldnt say *last time modified july 8* , im pretty sure i didnt save it somewhere else though because i didnt save it with *save as* , i already had it saved and i simply press save. Yes it might have nothing to do with the archive thing but this behavior is really strange , it doesnt make any sense why it would do that.

Just to clarify better what i did , i had two copies of the same file , one on my usb stick and another one on a folder at my pc , i copied the file from my usb stick to the folder at my pc and overwrote the file there , i have done that several times without a problem.

You may find a copy in the recycle bin

Maybe this way: Right click on the notepad icon or .exe and "run as administrator", open the file and save it. Same old change date or new date now? If it's the new date now, you have a permission problem on the file and a copy with your changes may have been stored somewhere on the disk.

This is not a continuous error , it happened once , i already wrote things into the file and saved it and it is updated now but this error might appear again in the future. I never had a problem so far , i used it everyday and it was fine , it suddenly deleted everything i wrote into it after july and rolled back , i searched my whole pc for the same file and i found nothing.

This is troublesome , its painfull to know that you may lose very important text for no logical reason.

This also happens in case of a HDD failure and the solution is to keep at least one backup of your personal files on a stick, external HDD or in the cloud.
